University Appoints New Associate Dean of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University

Montclair, NJ (03/31/2025) — Following a national search, Montclair State University has announced the appointment of Dr. Maruice Mangum as the new Associate Dean of Bloomfield College of Montclair State University effective Monday, May 5.

Mangum will help lead academic programs that align with the University's strategic plan and advance teaching excellence and innovation.

"I am pleased to have such an accomplished scholar and seasoned administrator to support Bloomfield College," says Dean Theodorea Regina Berry.

About Maruice Mangum

Mangum brings a wealth of experience and a distinguished track record in academic leadership. He currently serves as professor and chair of the Department of Political Science at Jackson State University, where he plays a key role in fostering a robust academic environment that prepares students for the next stages of their lives. His previous roles include serving as professor and chair of the Department of Social Science at Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University, as well as associate dean at Texas Southern University.

"I am delighted to join the team as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at Bloomfield College of Montclair State University," says Mangum. "I look forward to working with Dean Berry and the others on behalf of the faculty, staff, and students."

Accolades and Expertise

Dr. Mangum's accolades include the Rod Paige Faculty/Staff Award from Texas Southern University, Distinguished Teaching Award from Texas Southern University and the Anna Julia Cooper Teaching Award for excellence in teaching by the National Conference of Black Political Scientists.

His research expertise lies in American politics, particularly American public opinion and political participation. Dr. Mangum's work has been published in many reputable social science journals on public opinion towards affirmative action, immigration, and the death penalty and the determinants of political ideology and party identification. His forthcoming book is titled "Handbook on Marginalized Groups in the United States and their Challenges."

Mangum holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Iowa, a master's in political science from The Ohio State University and a PhD in political science from Louisiana State University.
